More tips for a day on the Eilandje
On the Eilandje there is lots more to see besides AntwerpPhoto, and there’s something for everyone. From nice bars to spectacular architecture, here you’ll find even more tips for a day in one of Antwerp’s newest neighborhoods.
Even a little bit of rain shouldn’t stop you from visiting Antwerp. From Antwerp Central Station you can easily reach the Eilandje by tram: premetrolines 9 and 15 take you to stop ‘Meir’. Above ground tram 7 stops just around the corner and takes you straight to the Loodswezengebouw, the venue of AntwerpPhoto. The four exhibitions are open from 10 AM to 6 PM and a visit takes about 1,5 hours.
After your visit, there are plenty of indoor activities at walking distance on the Eilandje. Have a great cup of coffee at Black & Yellow (Nassaustraat 7) or at Sanba (Rijnkaai 22), which also serves a good lunch.
Art and architecture
Still hungry for some culture? There are two art galleries at a stone’s throw from the Loodswezengebouw, both located on the Verbindingsdok-Oostkaai. Gallery Pedrami mainly represents Middle-Eastern artist and at Gallery Verbeeck-Van Dyck you can catch Modulart, featuring work by five Austrian visual artists.
Architecture lovers can walk to the recently opened Havenhuis (Port House), designed by architect Zaha Hadid. You can take a look inside this exceptional building by booking a tour in advance.
A cold beer with a view on the docks
When it’s time to unwind with a drink, the Eilandje offers plenty of options. ‘t Licht der Dokken (Verbindingsdok-Westkaai 2) is a local bar where you can get a whiff of the real old Antwerp harbour vibes. Feeling more like a fine glass of wine? Bar Brut (Londenstraat 3) serves lovely quality wines and appetizers on their cosy terrace.
